Members Kite Arch -- Fact Sheet

The diamonds should to roughly 50cm tall, 50cm wide, and the cross of the diamond positioned 1/5 (10cm) from the top.

We (well probably me, Anthony) will sew the arch bridal line across the diamond kite. You can add a 3mm fibreglass spine if you like, and/or a ribbon tail, but we will do this for you, if you decide not to.

Please write your name on the back, say along an edge, or behind a dark bit of appliqué. That way we know who contributed what kite.

The diagram shows the scale we are working to. The kite does not have to be exactly that size, but would look silly if it isn't reasonably close it it. You can also overflow the diamond shape boundary if it is an integral part of your appliqué design. For example to create flapping legs of an astronaut or line dancer, or maybe the sides curve inward tapering to a appliqué tail defining a spitting cobra. Think about it, be creative and have fun!

A kite arch is great way to try out your appliqué skills. It does not matter if the applique did not turn out quite right, as it will not affect a kite arches overall performance.

Remember the members arch is your arch, and will be flown whenever possible.

Anthony Thyssen

PS: All the diamonds are attached from one to the next with a `pigtail' knot system, allowing individual diamond kites to be removed for repairs, replacement, rearrangement, or expansion of the kite arch. And each are separated by an approximate 48cm gap from one diamond to the next.

It looks great spread accross the sky.
